Moving Principles

Our posture and the way we move has big impact on our overall health.  The moving principles covered in class are universal and once we're aware of them, we are able to progress more quickly in our practice, avoid injuries and move freely in our day-to-day life.   This information is taken from Donna Farhi's work, Yoga Mind, Body and Spirit.
The principles in summary:

  1. Breathe – let the breath move you
  2. Yield – establish the right relationship with the earth
  3. Radiate – move from the core out
  4. Center – maintain the integrity of your spine
  5. Support – establish your foundation of support
  6. Align – create alignment to do more with less effort
  7. Engage – engage the whole body
Finally, return the mind to its original silence.
